Social Development Direct is a leading international provider of social development consultancy and research services. SDDirect specialises in providing expertise on the social and political dimensions of development.

Based in London, SDDirect was established in 1999 as a small network of leading independent consultants and researchers committed to working with government and non-governmental organisations to improve the quality and impact of development assistance. SDDirect is committed to the eradication of poverty, global inequality and injustice and work with development partners in the north and south to this end.

Today, we have a dedicated in-house team of 20 Social Development experts, complemented by 12 technically specialist Senior Associates and our network of over 300 hand-picked social development consultants. We offer deep thematic expertise in, Gender Based Violence, Inclusive Economic Development, Governance and Inclusive Societies, and Security, Justice and Peace Building. Gender and social inclusion is at the heart of everything we do.

Our approach to safeguarding is grounded in structural power analysis, such as gender inequality, social exclusion and age differences. We help our clients understand the root causes of the type of harm that they may see within their organsiations and programmes, helping them develop strategies to mitigate these and to respond to safeguarding concerns that may emerge. We offer support to develop and review an organization’s or programme’s full safeguarding framework, including developing relevant policies, and procedures including in relation to human resources, operations and programme implementation.

SDDirect offers advice and support to development agencies, southern and northern governments, non-governmental organisations, the private sector and to other international development consultancies. As a specialist provider of social development expertise, SDDirect works with organisations to ensure that development policy, programmes and projects are grounded in social, cultural and political realities and will bring about positive outcomes for poor, vulnerable and socially excluded groups in society.
