In the past two years, The New Humanitarian and the Thomas Reuter Foundation have undertaken investigations over allegations of abuse by employees of UN and NGOs engaged in humanitarian response. These were “some of the hardest stories I’ve covered in the past 25 years“, as one investigative journalist from The New Humanitarian said.

This article reflects the challenges journalists face when investigating such cases, there efforts to stay committed to protect the privacy of victims who request it, to and to avoid any further victims’ stigmatizing and exposure to further abuses.

The article is also a claim for decision makers to follow up on the serious investigations done by journalists and install restoring procedures for all victims of sexual exploitation and abuse done by aid workers.
