A British United Nations official escaped prosecution for alleged sexual exploitation of a teenage girl in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) despite an investigation finding credible evidence against him.

The man was working for the UN’s peacekeeping mission in the DRC in 2017 when he is alleged to have given a 16-year-old girl money and goods in exchange for sex.

The allegation was reported to the Congolese authorities and investigated by the UN’s internal affairs unit, which concluded that the allegations were substantiated.
